With a safe, efficient means of transporting pedestrians across Southwest Hall Boulevard, one of the final gaps in the Fanno Creek Trail system could be bridged. To reach that goal the Tualatin Hills Park and Recreation District’s Board of Directors on Monday opted to go not above or under, but through the busy thoroughfare.
Rejecting earlier proposals for a bridge or tunnel at the crossing, located between Southwest Greenway Boulevard and Creekside Place, the board members unanimously approved the “mid-block” at-grade crossing improvements to facilitate bicyclists and pedestrians. Estimated to cost between $350,000 and $400,000, the project would add a pedestrian- and bicyclist-activated crossing signal coordinated with the vehicular signals at Greenway Drive, along with a crosswalk.
